Disinfect Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Coronavirus COVID-19 is in every news story and headline right now. Here in the Richmond area, all of Virginia, The United States, and all around the world people are asking what they can do to protect themselves and their families from contracting Coronavirus / COVID-19. Richmond, VA business owners are researching how to Disinfect Coronavirus COVID-19 Richmond VA and prevent the spread of Coronavirus to their employees and clients. Many people and companies are already performing deep sanitation cleans in their homes and businesses. A common question from business owners and homeowners alike is whether preforming air duct system cleaning and sanitization for their business or home will help protect them from the spread of this extremely contagious virus.
The simple answer is that in a time when people are being encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible, Indoor Air Quality is should be a top priority for everyone in Richmond, VA. The fewer contaminants you have in your duct, the less likely anything can attach itself to any particles that you might unknowingly inhale. We have been seeing all kinds of cleaning contractors claiming they can Disinfect Coronavirus COVID-19 Richmond VA with certain chemicals and strategies. As a cleaning contractor we use the same chemicals that some are marketing as being 100% guaranteed to kill the Coronavirus COVID-19 in Richmond, VA. However, you will NOT find HCDC marketing in this way.
The fact is that the CDC is only using terminology in regards to disinfecting this strain of virus such as “inactivate” or “expected to be effective.” This comes from the fact that there are 7 types of Human Coronavirus, including MERS and SARS. While certain chemicals we use are known to be effective in disinfecting Coronavirus from hard, non-porous surfaces, the current data is based on strains which have been previously studied. COVID-19 is a new strain of Coronavirus that is currently being studied. The CDC, in its Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection Recommendations, states that the CDC expects current EDP approved chemicals used to disinfect surfaces contaminated by other types of Coronavirus should be effective to also disinfect Coronavirus COVID-19 contaminated surfaces. It is also important to note that many of these products state their effectiveness on hard, non-porous surfaces. Not all ducts are hard and non-porous. Hyper Clean Duct Cleaning does use EPA approved products INSIDE the air stream that specifically state they kill Human Coronavirus and we expect it to be effective with the COVIS-19 strain as well. Fogging ducts under negative pressure with these products is our specialty.

The air inside of a home or business is mostly a product of the HVAC system, otherwise known as the heating and cooling system. The heating and cooling system takes in air through the intake vents. The intake vents are commonly large, rectangular or square openings in a wall where you would typically find a screen or filter. After the heating and cooling system takes air in, it warms up or cools down the air before pushing that air throughout the structure through a series of ducts. The warmed or cooled air comes out of the duct work at points commonly referred to as “ducts.” These are smaller than an intake vent and typically rectangular, and are air exit points for the duct work that travels within the ceilings, floors, and walls. These ducts are found in each room of a structure, while there may only be as few as one intake vent per floor of a building. Regardless of the number, nearly all of the air within a structure will travel through this network of tubing, vents, and ducts.
When the air ducts are dirty, the contaminants within the duct work pollute the air as it travels throughout the building or structure. This polluted and contaminated air is then inhaled by the occupants of the building or structure. Breathing in contaminants such as dust, bacteria, and germs can cause, contribute to, or exacerbate illness, allergies, and problems breathing. These problems can be even more serious in commercial, business, industrial environments, or buildings in which there are large numbers of people. Environments such as hospitals and other places in which there is an elevated risk of serious air contamination must take special care to ensure that the air ducts are clean and safe.
