Crawl Space Restoration
Crawl Space Restoration
Many homeowners are completely unaware of the importance of crawl space maintenance, especially in regards to removing soiled or contaminated insulation. Because of this, many homes have crawl space areas that are drastically diminishing their efficiency and air quality, and even allowing dangerous toxins and germs into their homes. In fact, 40% of children are affected by allergies in the U.S., while up to 40% of the air you breathe at home comes from your attic and crawl space. Mainly for you and your family’s health, keep your crawl space clean and dry. Dirt, mold and pest droppings might affect your home’s air, especially if you have ductwork running beneath it. Hiring a pro is crucial to remove the root of the problem.
Preparing the Space
All debris, especially sharp rocks or anything else which may puncture the insulating plastic needs to be removed. Scope for your home requires spot growth cleanup through an antimicrobial scrub and post fog treatment.
Sealing
Any external openings in the side walls will be sealed. Pipes or wires coming from the outside must also be properly sealed. This will block unwanted air flow and also help to waterproof the space. 16 Mil Woven White Poly will be used as the barrier sealer.
Installation
An insulating layer of plastic is added to the walls and floor. The plastic used for the floor should be at least six millimeters in thickness, should overlap by at least one foot, be stapled or adhesive down, and cover the entire area. At this thickness, the plastic will be durable enough to endure plumbing, termite inspections, and other disturbances. Wall plastic should use metal fasteners and allow for a minimum of 2 inch gap from the sill plate to help facilitate termite inspections. HCDC will ramset and glue the white poly application on the side walls & columns.
